Results from the 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health
Substance use and mental health issues affect millions of adolescents and adults in the United States. This report summarizes findings for key substance use and mental health indicators from the 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH). Information on mental health and substance use allows the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and other policymakers to measure progress toward improving the health of the nation.
Details of the NSDUH findings were shared during a press conference on Thursday, September 7, 2017. The following slides from the web conference show the incidence of serious mental illness (SMI), suicidal thoughts, plans, and attempts, and how many teens/young adults are seeking treatment.
