Continuing Education - Mental Health Beyond Borders: Cultural and Ethical Considerations for Supporting Latine/x Immigrants and Refugees
Given the diverse mental health needs and barriers that Latine/x immigrants and refugees experience when seeking quality services in the U.S., it is vital for mental health professionals to be prepared to offer culturally responsive, evidence-based care. This presentation will provide an overview of critical cultural and ethical considerations necessary for providing effective clinical services for Latine/x immigrants and refugees, and equip participants with the knowledge and tools to enhance their engagement and advocacy efforts within these communities.
About the Speaker: Joanna Servín, PhDis a bilingual (Spanish/English) and bicultural licensed clinical psychologist. She specializes in bilingual psychological assessment and evidence-based, culturally-informed treatment of mood disorders, suicidality, and trauma among children and youth. She is certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Parent-Child Care (PC-CARE). She also has expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and Parent Management Training (PMT) interventions.
