Here’s Where You Can Pick Up Free Meals in Santa Clara County [web resource]
San Jose has launched a searchable map to make it easier for families, seniors and students to find out where they can get a free meal.
The map features more than 400 food distribution sites, including free meal pick-up locations for students and seniors, food banks and restaurants that are open for take-out. Residents can type in their address and get a list of all the nearest food distribution sites to their home.
Color-coded symbols indicate what groups each site serves: blue is senior sites for those 60 or older, green is for free meals provided by schools for students 18 and younger, yellow for food banks and their partnering organizations, and orange for some of the restaurants still open for take-out.
Since schools first closed in mid-March, districts across the Bay Area have been providing breakfasts and lunches for low-income students to pick up at various school sites. When clicking on a school distribution site, the map will inform you what days and times meals can be picked up.
Santa Clara County’s Senior Nutrition Program has continued to serve adults 60 or older, their spouses and disabled adults that live with older adults during the stay-at-home order.
The map does not provide a full list of every restaurant in the county still open for take-out, but it does provide families with some places to consider if they’re looking to purchase a meal.
