First 5 California understands today’s parents face many challenges and tough choices as they raise their kids. First 5 California, also known as the California Children and Families Commission, supports the healthy development of children, from prenatal through age 5, and enriches the lives of their families and communities.

First 5 focus areas include:

  • Effective Interactions and Teaching
  • Positive Parenting
  • Tobacco Cessation
  • Public Outreach
  • Advocacy and Policy

See the First 5 Parenting website for free information and resources  to help your child grow up healthy and thrive. The First 5 Parenting website offers resources organized by age group and topic, educational videos, activities you can do with your child, a directory of services and more. Among the free resources are a  downloadable bilingual digital story book and kit for new parents.

Each county in California has its own First 5 commission. These 58 county commissions fund local service providers, health and learning programs, and resources tailored to meet the needs of your family and community. Connect with your county’s First 5 commission.
